چکیده

INTRODUCTION Hepatopulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is de ned as a triad of chronic liver diseases and/or portal hypertension, gas exchange defects (increased alveolar-arterial PO2 difference regardless of the presence of arterial hypoxemia), and intrapulmonary vascular dilatation(1). Patients of all ages can be affected; however there is a frequency of 4% to 32% among patients with chronic liver disease(2). HPS is responsible for an increase in morbidity and mortality among patients awaiting liver transplantation (LT). Early diagnosis would increase recognition of LT Role of Pulse Oximetry in Detecting Mild to Moderate Hepatopulmonary Syndrome in Children

Can we Replace Arterial Blood Gas Analysis by Pulse Oximetry in Neonates with Respiratory Distress Syndrome, who are Treated According to INSURE Protocol?

Neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), who are treated according to INSURE protocol; require arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis to decide on appropriate management. We conducted this study to investigate the validity of pulse oximetry instead of frequent ABG analysis in the evaluation of these patients. From a total of 193 blood samples obtained from 30 neonates <1500 grams with RDS,...

Screening of hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) with CEUS and pulse-oximetry in liver cirrhosis patients eligible for liver transplant.

BACKGROUND AND AIM The prevalence of hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) in the setting of cirrhosis ranges between 4%-47%. We aimed to detect a correlation between heart and lungs findings on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS)and pulse-oximetry, in order to early detect HPS and thus to improve patients referral to orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT). METHODS We considered at risk for HPS all p...

Pulse oximetry recording in children with adenotonsillar hypertrophy: usefulness in the diagnostic of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.

INTRODUCTION Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is the most serious consequence of adenotonsillar hypertrophy (ATH). The gold standard diagnostic method is polysomnography (PSG) with nocturnal oximetry, but it requires expensive equipment, the presence of a technician and a specialized doctor, and is very time consuming, making the procedure difficult. The recording of pulse oximetry monit...

An investigation of capnography and pulse oximetry as monitors of pediatric patients sedated for dental treatment.

Traditional methods of monitoring sedated pediatric dental patients have major shortcomings. This study evaluated the use of capnography in conjunction with pulse oximetry for monitoring children during conscious sedation for dental treatment. The specific purposes of the study were to determine if capnography would: (1) detect ventilatory changes that subsequently cause an oxyhemoglobin desatu...
